30 years: Gary Lee Jackson, 26, of Garland, pleaded guilty to receiving child pornography and to possessing more than 1,000 such images
Prosecutors say the discovery of a misplaced cellphone with child pornography images has led to 30 years in prison for a North Texas man.
A federal judge in Dallas on Tuesday sentenced 26-year-old Gary Lee Jackson of Garland after he pleaded guilty to receiving child pornography and to possessing more than 1,000 such images.
It was the maximum possible sentence.
Police say an individual contacted officers last August about child porn images on a cellphone that Jackson left in the person’s car.
Jackson told police that he has a history of exploiting children.
An officer testified that Jackson described how in 2007 a woman named Amber Schmidt ‘bought’ him a 12-year-old girl for his birthday.
Jackson says he molested the child.
He also told police he had molested and exploited children since he was a teenager, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.
He allegedly said that he repeatedly molested a five-year-old last year and once took a 13-year-old’s virginity.
An officer with the Garland Police Department testified that Jackson admitted to him that when he was a teenager, he convinced a three and a six-year-old to remove their clothing for him.
Schmidt in January pleaded guilty to transporting and shipping child porn. She awaits sentencing.
