Before “Black Lives Matter”: A 1959 Speech About Police Brutality | National Geographic – YouTube

In this profound piece of footage filmed for a documentary by Madeline Anderson, civil rights attorney R. Jess Brown addresses a meeting of the NAACP to deplore the killing of Al Garrett, an African-American man, by a New York City police officer in Brooklyn. Garrett had been arrested for carrying an empty beer bottle.

In the police station, the officer shot and fatally wounded the young man. The shooting has parallels to similar events in our own time, especially as the means to capture video footage of the killings has become widespread. This film is now preserved at the Smithsonian’s new National Museum of African American History and Culture.

FULL VIDEO Of “Black Lives Matter” Parents DISRUPTING Kansas School Board Meeting! – YouTube

Published on Dec 13, 2016
LAWRENCE, Kan. — A Monday night Lawrence school board meeting was abruptly adjourned after several audience members interrupted the proceedings with complaints and accusations that the school district was protecting a teacher who had recently resigned amid controversy over racist remarks he is believed to have made in class.

People claiming to be part of the group Black Lives Matter-LFK disrupted the 7 p.m. meeting not long into the proceedings, at times making loud, profanity-laced accusations and approaching the bench. Police were called to the meeting, and although tensions ran high, no physical violence occurred and police never had to step in.

Several individuals confronted the board members and refused to yield the floor in a meeting that was livestreamed online. When a board member asked if they would make their statement during the time allotted for public comments, the group’s response was a resounding “No!”

“We’re running this meeting right now! Y’all don’t even deserve to be up there. We’re running this meeting and she’s talking. Do not interrupt her no more!” one woman demanded.

The subject of the group’s ire was the district’s handling of former South Middle School social studies teacher Chris Cobb, who had been accused of making racist comments in class. Cobb “reluctantly resigned” after 17 years with the school district, although he denied any wrongdoing, the Lawrence Journal-World reported.

The school district has never said exactly what Cobb’s comments were, but a protester at Monday’s meeting claimed that Cobb “has been known to say that white people own black people,” and “white people are genetically superior,” among other remarks.

The group accused the school district of sweeping the controversy under the rug, referencing a recent article in the Lawrence Journal-World that revealed the conditions of Cobb’s resignation, among them full pay and benefits while on administrative leave; total omission of the investigation in Cobb’s personnel file; and an agreement not to reveal the investigation to prospective employers who inquire about Cobb’s tenure with the district.

The board abruptly adjourned the meeting while the group continued shout and air grievances. The group stayed behind after the board members had left the room, calling for the resignation of Superintendent Kyle Hayden.

The COWS Compensatory Call-In: Saturday, July 9th 9:00PM Eastern/ 6:00PM Pacific

Saturday, July 9th 9:00PM Eastern/ 6:00PM Pacific

The Context of White Supremacy hosts the weekly Compensatory Call-In. We encourage non-white listeners to dial in with their codified concepts, new terms, observations, research findings, workplace problems or triumphs, and/or suggestions on how eeest to Replace White Supremacy With Justice ASAP. We’ll use these sessions to hone our use of words as tools to reveal truth, neutralize White people. We’ll examine news reports from the past seven days and – hopefully – promote a constructive dialog.

The 4th of July fireworks were barely extinguished before business as usual resumed in the United States. As White Supremacists never take a vacation from brutalizing black people, Louisiana’s Alton Sterling and Minnesota’s Philander Castile were gunned down on camera by Race Soldiers. No one has been charged for their respective deaths; social media cranked out fresh hashtags and rhetoric about justice. Much of this was scuttled when a Thursday evening Black Lives Matter protest in Dallas, Texas was interrupted bysniper fire. It was originally reported that multiple shooters fired into the crowd killing five police officers and wounding eleven others – including two civilians. Updated reports indicate that investigators believe Micah Xavier Johnson, a 25-year-old black male, is the sole shooter; officers allegedly killed him with an incendiary device after an extensive shootout. However, alternate reports indicate Johnson died from a self-inflicted gun wound. With so many questions unanswered, many have concluded that President Obama and Black Lives Matter protesters are the culpabale for the mythological “war on cops.” It’s being alleged that Johnson was “upset with White people,” which motivated his calculated attack. Much like the 1963 assassination of John F. Kennedy – which was also in Dallas, this shooting will greatly impact who resides in the White House. Then again, maybe the weekend opening of The Purge had a bigger impact than we think.
