This Time Zimmerman Points his Gun in a White Woman’s Face. Same Result? | The BrownWatch: News for People of Color. – BrownWatch News

From [HERE] The latest conflict in racist suspectGeorge Zimmerman‘s life could come down — like so many others — to what is heard on a 911 emergency recording.

Zimmerman, 30, is scheduled to appear before a judge on Tuesday facing charges including aggravated assault, battery and criminal mischief for allegedly pointing a shotgun at his girlfriend, Samantha Scheibe, during a dispute on Monday. The judge will decide whether Zimmerman, who was taken into custody Monday afternoon and spent the night in a 64-square-foot cell, will be allowed bail.

Zimmerman is no stranger to the jail in Seminole County, having spent time there after he was charged with killing Trayvon Martin, an unarmed black teenager in Sanford, Fla., in 2012. Zimmerman also was sent to jail when his bail was revoked after questions arose about whether he had hidden assets when his initial bail was computed and when he lied about the status of his passport.

Eventually Zimmerman was freed on bail, but his movements were limited until a six-person jury (5 whites 1 Latino = no Blacks) acquitted him of murder charges in July in the shooting of Martin. During the trial, 911 tapes played an important role in establishing the chain of events that the jury considered.

In the current case, Scheibe, 27, called Seminole County authorities from her Apopka, Fla. home about 12:30 p.m. and complained that Zimmerman started an argument when she told him to leave, according to the arrest report from the sheriff’s office. Zimmerman began packing his belongings, including a shotgun and an assault rifle. She said she began putting his things in the living room and outside the house, and he became upset. She is a white person (see above photo).

The latest conflict in George Zimmerman‘s life could come down — like so many others — to what is heard on a 911 emergency recording and what white people think about it. In a white supremacy system, white life is more valuable than non-white life. [MORE]

Zimmerman also was sent to jail when his bail was revoked after questions arose about whether he had hidden assets when his initial bail was computed.

At that point, the report says, he took the shotgun out of its case.

“You point your gun at my freaking face,” Scheibe is heard telling Zimmerman on the 911 call, also released by officials on Monday. “Get out of my house. Do not push me out of my house. Please get out of my house.”

There is a pause and she continues, saying to the dispatcher. “He pushed me out of my house and locked me out. … He knows how to do this. He knows how to play this game.”

Zimmerman, officials said, then barricaded himself inside the house. He called 911 to tell his side of the story.

“I have a girlfriend, who for lack of a better word, has gone crazy on me,” Zimmerman said.

Zimmerman denies pulling a weapon on his girlfriend and said it was she who smashed a table at the home they shared. He also told the dispatcher that Scheibe was pregnant with their child and that she had decided she would raise the child on her own. When Zimmerman started to leave, “she got mad,” he said.

At a Monday evening news conference, Seminole County Sheriff’s OfficeChief Deputy Dennis Lemma told reporters that Scheibe wasn’t pregnant.

Deputies eventually used a key to enter and push the furniture aside, Lemma said. Zimmerman put up no resistance when he was taken into custody.

Monday’s dispute was Zimmerman’s second domestic dispute involving police since he became a national name.  In September,  Zimmerman and his estranged wife were involved in a domestic dispute days after Shellie Zimmerman filed divorce papers. She was living in Lake Mary, Fla., and described to police how Zimmerman allegedly assaulted her father and threatened her and her father with a gun.

Zimmerman “is in his car and he continually has his hand on his gun and he keeps saying step closer and he is just threatening all of us,” Shellie Zimmerman told a 911 operator.

“He punched my dad on the nose. My dad has a mark on his face. I saw his glasses were on the floor. He accosted my father and then took my iPad out of my hand and smashed it and cut it with a pocket knife…. I’m really, really afraid.”

Lake Mary police recently said no charges would be filed against George or Shellie Zimmerman because there was not enough evidence.

Zimmerman has also been pulled over at least three times for traffic stops since his acquittal and at least one was caught on video.

The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office said Zimmerman will be booked into the John E. Polk Correctional Facility.

George Zimmerman has made national headlines several times since his acquittal in July in the shooting death of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin.

Stay with WFTV.com and tune in to Eyewitness News at 4 p.m. as we work to uncover more details.

Over the summer, authorities were called to a domestic dispute involving Zimmerman and his wife, Shellie Zimmerman, shortly after she filed for divorce.

Shellie Zimmerman accused her estranged husband of punching her father and threatening them at the father’s home on Ridgewood Road.

In the end, no charges were filed against Zimmerman in the case.

Zimmerman was also accused by his wife’s mother of stealing property from her Lake Mary home, where Zimmerman had been staying.

Police are reviewing the case to determine if it will be a civil or criminal matter.

Zimmerman was also pulled over twice for speeding, once in Texas where he was let off with a warning and another time in Lake Mary, where he was issued a $256 ticket.

And he drew controversy for visiting the Kel-Tec gun manufacturing company in Cocoa, where he toured the facility and posed for a photo with a worker at the plant.

even in death our children are mocked

reblogged from Umkhonto we Sizwe! (Spear of the Nation)

Please read this article in completion brothas and sistas, so You can See for Yourself how Trayvon Martin is being ridiculed, mocked and made fun of even though he was murdered in cold blood, even though he was innocent, even though he was not guilty of any crime….interesting indeed that even in death Our children are still being tormented, insulted and tainted. For those of you who do not live in the West, this is Your Wake Up Call. FYI: This is Not the “land of milk and honey” and Black people here do not live in “paradise”.

We struggle to protect the lives of Our families and children just as much as other Afrikan people in various parts of the world do. The fact remains that Being a young Black child anywhere in the world means that you will have to be protected, nurtured and loved by your family, your extended family & your community, because this is not a job that Black parents should ever have to do by themselves. Our children are under consistent and unrelenting attack, and the sooner we realize that we must create a protective circle of sincere, loving and concerned family & community members around them, the better off ALL our lives will BE. Until then….please Ensure that Our children are Safe in the hands of All those who you entrust to care for them.

Trayvoning

Following in the footsteps of other ridiculous pose trends like planking and owling, this has to be the most disturbing and disrespectful of them all, it’s called Trayvoning.

No matter what side of the fence people stand on regarding George Zimmerman’s guilt or innocence in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, we thought there was one thing that was understood across the board: His death was a tragedy. That obviously isn’t the case now that a new trend is popping up on Facebook and the web mocking the 17-year-old’s murder.

Pics are popping up all over the Internet of teens—all white from what we’ve seen so far—laying on the ground in hoodies as though they’re dead with a can of iced tea in one hand and a bag of skittles in the other, mocking the items the slain teenager purchased from a corner store just minutes before he was shot and killed.

What’s even more disturbing is there are Trayvoning Facebook pages where these individuals are posting their pictures and asking people to share and like the page to boost its popularity. So far, there are only 24 likes on one and 67 on the other, but that’s still 91 too many.

On one page it’s clear from the comments that the participants think this is a fun and cool thing to do, the other seems to have a backward goal of raising awareness which really isn’t warranted at this point and definitely can’t be achieved in this way. It’s hard to think of anyone’s murder—black or white—that has ever been mocked in such a disrespectful way and this act is just further proof that it’s impossible for America to see a black boy as a victim. This is just as bad as the Trayvon Martin gun target selling out in just two days!

Social media sort of changes the sensitivity rules in some ways but we’re still talking about a death and we highly doubt any of these people were rallying in their cities or pushing for charges to be brought against Zimmerman. They’re trying to make a joke out of something tragic and it’s just not funny. These inappropriate Facebook pages have been reported. We can’t stop these fools from posing and taking pictures but we can stop it from spreading on social media.

Inside the Racist Mind

4/19/2012 — After a recent event where I spoke about racial identity, a white woman sidled up to me, leaned in close so no one near us could hear, and said, “I’m racist.” Many people would be repelled. I was entranced. Here was someone who could tell me first hand how the racist mind worked. Social scientists have done studies on Klansmen and Neo-Nazis but those sorts of people are outliers, socially and mentally, while this woman was the sort of person you might encounter on a normal day. She seemed indicative of the sort of racist mind we’d be mostly likely to meet. She seemed normal. So I decided to talk to her and find out how her mind worked.

Studies show most people have some sort of prejudice or bias. “Decades of cognitive bias research demonstrates that both unconscious and conscious biases lead to discriminatory actions even when an individual does not want to discriminate,” write Michelle Alexander in her book The New Jim Crow. “The fact that you may honestly believe that you are not biased against African Americans, and that you may have black friends and relatives, does not mean that you are free from unconscious bias. Implicit bias tests may still show that you hold negative attitudes and stereotypes about blacks even though you do not believe you do and do not want to.” Part of the problem is the monsoon of negative messages about blacks coming at Americans which makes being non-racist almost like mentally swimming upstream.

(MORE: The Problem With The “My Best Friend is Black” Defense)

Still, most people today are ashamed to be racist and know to do their best to never reveal it. So after this woman at the event told me she was racist, I said, “Really?!” in a way that indicated I wasn’t offended and that she could feel comfortable to speak freely. She did.

“I just have these thoughts,” she said, almost whispering into my ear. I felt like she was confessing as if I were her priest. “My mind just goes places. I can’t control it. I know it’s wrong but I can’t help myself. I say, Don’t think like that! But it’s what people told me when I was younger.” Then she leaned back and someone else said hello and our moment of penance concluded.

I wanted to hear more but I had heard enough to understand. She had mental habits based on ideas implanted long ago that had taken root in her subconscious. She’s got various stereotypes and biases firmly lodged in her long-term memory where she stores things like how to ride a bike. That’s why the thoughts feel like they come at her automatically and beyond her control—“My mind just goes places.” At this point, unlearning those perceptions would be as hard as unlearning bike-riding—if there were near-constant media messages and social reinforcements about how to ride a bike. And yet society has also taught her that she should be ashamed to judge people in this way. It’s sad that she knows she should not think racist thoughts but cannot stop herself because the lessons were learned and reinforced so well.

Racism is a mental tumor. It’s an acceptance of stereotypes, of otherness, of fear, of racial hierarchies. It requires embracing the concept of constants about certain racial groups even though there are no biological certainties about the races. Scientifically, there is only the human race. Race as we know it is a social construct and, in the sweep of human history, a relatively recent concept invented in America to justify having both “liberty for all” and slavery. Racism has long had sub-ideas protecting it like bodyguards—the idea that blacks were lesser human beings with inferior brain power and morality and criminal proclivities aided in the perpetuation of slavery, Jim Crow and the current wave of criminalization in which young black men are considered synonymous with criminals—some have captured this via the term “criminalblackman.”

(MORE: Michelle Alexander: The Myth of Desegregation)

Some people suggest that the multiracial embrace of Barack Obama, Oprah Winfrey, Michael Jordan, Will Smith and others portends the end of racism. But this, as the writer Arundati Roy says, is like the President pardoning one turkey before Thanksgiving and then eating another—and America eats thousands. The human mind is complex enough to integrate hypocrisy and contradictions. There have long been extraordinary blacks who succeeded far more than the vast majority and were accepted as special. The racist mind need not hate every black person it encounters, and indeed not hating all may serve as a valuable safety valve, releasing pressure and proving to the mind itself that it is not racist. Few people want to think of themselves as bad or evil.

George Zimmerman provides a fascinating case study because his moment of evincing bias is caught on tape. He said, “This guy looks like he is up to no good — he is on drugs or something,” showing us he saw a Rorschach of a tall black boy walking in the distance and assumed he was a criminal and a drug user and to be feared. None of these things were true—in fact, the National Household Survey on Drug Abuse has repeatedly found that blacks use illegal drugs at about the same rates as other races. Zimmerman is also said to have mentored two black children in his neighborhood. Does that prove he’s not a racist? No. Humans are filled with contradictions, so Zimmerman could have gotten to know those neighborhood boys and embraced their humanity but not extend the expectation of humanity to someone he didn’t know. When Zimmerman went to mentor those children he was one subself, and when he spotted Trayvon a different subself kicked in, powered by a constellation of thoughts that aligned black men with criminality.

Zimmerman was taught by society that young black men are on drugs and criminals and that fallacy sits in his subconscious alongside how to ride a bike. If he didn’t live in a world where people are constantly acting on that fallacy then he wouldn’t have that in his subconscious. Racism is not inherent like the ability to learn how to read. It’s learned. And we are teaching it well.
